Advantages, Limitations and Recommendations for online learning during COVID-19 pandemic era

This study explores the perceptions of teachers and students regarding the advantages, limitations, and recommendations for online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic in Pakistan. Conducted from March to April 2020, the qualitative case study involved 12 faculty members and 12 students from two medical and dental colleges in Lahore. Four focus group interviews were conducted, and data were analyzed using thematic analysis. **Advantages:** - Remote learning - Comfort - Accessibility **Limitations:** - Inefficiency in teaching practical and clinical skills - Difficulty in maintaining academic integrity - Limited attention span among students - Resource-intensive nature of online learning **Recommendations:** - Continuous faculty development - Reducing cognitive load and increasing interactivity - Development of lesson plans with reduced cognitive load and increased interactivity - Use of premium software and proctoring tools to enhance quality and detect cheating The study supports the use of online learning in medical and dental institutes, highlighting its flexibility and effectiveness.
