This chapter presents the first systematic, synonimical, and biogeographical checklist of oribatid mites (Acariformes, Oribatida) worldwide from 1758 to 2002. The checklist includes approximately 9,000 valid species and subspecies, over 1,000 synonyms, and 1,204 genera and subgenera across 169 families. It provides the current geographic distribution for each species, family, and genus, with notable expansions in the geographic ranges of some species. Notable taxonomic and nomenclatural changes are highlighted, including the creation of new families (Cerocephidae and Ametroproctidae), new genera (*Multimaudeheimia* and *Perezinogokalumma*), and new subgenera (*Malaconothrus* (*Cristonothrus*) and *Oribatella* (*Mulloribatella*)). A new generic name, *Paschoalia*, is given to *Hammeriella*, along with 83 new specific and subspecific names to address homonymies. The subgenus category is re-established as a useful taxonomic category, while the subfamily category is used only within the Oppidae family. The checklist aims to facilitate the study of oribatid mites and provide access to new researchers, building on previous works by various authors. The methodology emphasizes a pragmatic approach, focusing on basic data for taxonomic studies without delving into extensive discussions of synonyms and nomenclatural changes. This chapter presents the first systematic, synonimical, and biogeographical checklist of oribatid mites (Acariformes, Oribatida) worldwide from 1758 to 2002.
