This study systematically reviews community regeneration (CR) from a socially sustainable perspective (SSP) using VOSviewer software to analyze research trends and methods from 2006 to 2023. The review identifies 213 coded articles among 5002 relevant documents, focusing on quality of life (QoL), social participation, and social equity. Key findings include:
1. **Research Trends**: The research has evolved to emphasize QoL, social engagement, and social equity, with a growing focus on new technologies and emerging scenarios.
2. **Social Sustainability**: Social sustainability is a multidimensional concept, encompassing economic inequality, social disparities, and livability. Research has shifted from policy and developmental aspects to participatory and cultural dimensions.
3. **Implementation Pathways**: The study highlights the importance of densification as a synergistic and adaptive strategy for CR, emphasizing the need for precise and diverse community engagement and the cultivation of a sense of belonging.
4. **Bibliometric Analysis**: The analysis of keyword co-occurrence and citation sources reveals the core concepts and influential journals in the field, with a focus on urban design, social mix, and community equity.
5. **Geographical Distribution**: The UK and Italy are leading in CR research, while China has emerged as a significant player post-2018.
6. **New Technologies**: The emergence of new technologies, such as digitization and artificial intelligence, has opened new avenues for community participation and efficiency in CR.
7. **Community Equity**: The new developmental paradigm emphasizes high-quality development, social equity, and fair resource allocation, with a focus on balancing the interests of diverse stakeholders.
The study provides valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities of socially sustainable CR, offering a foundation for future research and practical urban planning and design interventions. This study systematically reviews community regeneration (CR) from a socially sustainable perspective (SSP) using VOSviewer software to analyze research trends and methods from 2006 to 2023.
