This study, based on the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2019, examines the burden of mental disorders in Asian countries from 1990 to 2019. The findings indicate that mental disorders have become the eighth leading cause of disease burden in Asia, contributing 5.0% (4.0–6.1%) of total disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) in 2019. Depressive disorders and anxiety disorders are the primary contributors, with age-standardized DALY rates remaining relatively stable but the number of DALYs increasing. The burden of mental disorders is higher in females, peaking at 30-34 years, and is more prevalent in West Asia, particularly in countries like Palestine, Iran, and Lebanon. Predictions for the next 25 years show a stable trend in age-standardized rates but an increasing number of DALYs. There is no significant correlation between the burden of mental disorders and Socio-demographic Index (SDI). The study emphasizes the need for urgent measures to prevent, treat, and rehabilitate mental disorders in Asian countries. This study, based on the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2019, examines the burden of mental disorders in Asian countries from 1990 to 2019.
