Foreword - System Design For, With and By Users

2015 | Harald Holone
This issue of IRIS 38, titled "System Design For, With and By Users," contains eight selected papers from the 2015 IRIS seminar held in Oulu, Finland. The papers have been reviewed and resubmitted for inclusion in this issue. The issue is published by AIS – IRIS, the Scandinavian Chapter of the Association for Information Systems, and is available on the AIS Electronic Library (AISeL). The first paper, "What Does a Chair Afford? A Heideggerian Perspective of Affordances," explores the concept of affordances through a philosophical lens, emphasizing the need for careful conceptual definitions in academic research. The second paper, "Reflections on the Use of Psychophysiology in Studying Reading on Digital Media," uses EEG measurements to examine reader motivation and experience when reading on digital media. The third paper, "Decision-Making Strategies in Business Simulation Environment: A Cultural Approach," investigates decision-making strategies in simulated environments, considering cultural backgrounds. The fourth paper, "Data for Participation and Participation as Data: Supporting Incremental Participatory Decision-Making in Urban Planning," discusses the role of data in participatory processes for urban planning. The fifth paper, "Maturity Models Development in IS Research: A Literature Review," examines the use of maturity models in international IS research and suggests their increased use in Scandinavian research. The sixth paper, "Designing Activity-Based and Context-Sensitive Ambient Sound Environments in Open-Plan Offices," explores the impact of acoustic design on workplace environments. The seventh paper, "A Survey of Game Usability Practices in Northern European Game Companies," presents findings from surveys on usability practices in game companies. The final paper, "Exploring Integrated Management Systems - Challenges and Potentials in Relation to IT Governance," presents initial results from a case study on integrated management systems in a Swedish government agency. The papers offer a diverse range of topics and insights into system design, user interaction, and research methodologies. This issue of IRIS 38, titled "System Design For, With and By Users," contains eight selected papers from the 2015 IRIS seminar held in Oulu, Finland.
