Academic stress is a significant issue among students, affecting their mental health, academic performance, and overall well-being. This study reviews the causes, effects, and management strategies of academic stress among students. Stress is a subjective process influenced by an individual's perception and response to threats. It can lead to depression, anxiety, and other health problems. Stress is prevalent among students due to academic pressures, financial burdens, time management challenges, and social adjustments. Factors contributing to stress include academic demands, peer pressure, and the need to excel in both academic and extracurricular activities. Stress can be beneficial in motivating students, but excessive stress can lead to negative outcomes such as anxiety, substance abuse, and mental health issues. Research indicates that stress levels vary among students, with some studies showing moderate stress and others indicating high stress. Gender differences also play a role, with female students often experiencing higher stress levels. Stress negatively impacts academic performance, but some studies suggest that moderate stress can enhance learning outcomes. Effective stress management strategies include regular exercise, meditation, adequate sleep, and time management. Creating a supportive environment and providing career counseling are also crucial in reducing student stress. The study concludes that insufficient support and lack of flexibility in academic settings contribute to student stress. Parents and educators should provide guidance and support to help students manage stress and achieve academic success.Academic stress is a significant issue among students, affecting their mental health, academic performance, and overall well-being.
