The ITC-Sense of Presence Inventory (ITC-SOPI) is a new cross-media presence measure designed to evaluate users' experiences with various media systems. The inventory focuses on users' subjective experiences rather than objective system parameters and aims to provide a reliable and valid tool for comparing results across different laboratories. Over 600 participants completed the ITC-SOPI after experiencing a range of noninteractive and interactive media. Exploratory factor analysis revealed four factors: Sense of Physical Space, Engagement, Ecological Validity, and Negative Effects. The inventory demonstrates reliability and validity, but further rigorous testing is needed, particularly in interactive virtual environments. The ITC-SOPI offers researchers a tool to measure four facets of media experience that are potentially related to presence, provided it is used in conjunction with other questionnaires tailored to specific lab requirements. The ITC-Sense of Presence Inventory (ITC-SOPI) is a new cross-media presence measure designed to evaluate users' experiences with various media systems.
