This document addresses two key topics in environmental studies: conservation management and integrated management of biodiversity and ecosystem services (GIBSE). The study focuses on the DCS Alto El Nudo, one of the 22 protected areas in Risaralda, Colombia, covering 136,000 hectares. The management effectiveness of the DCS Alto El Nudo is described as intermediate, indicating a lack of environmental management actions to achieve a strong situation. The research aims to contribute by characterizing the territory, valuing the ecological and sociocultural aspects of biodiversity and ecosystem services from the perspective of social actors, and proposing management actions for the protected area.
The study identifies the perceptions of different community, institutional, and academic actors about ecosystem services of regulation, provision, and culture. It proposes management actions to conserve and use the protected area sustainably. The DCS Alto El Nudo requires improving social administration efficiency and monitoring, verification, and control of proposed management actions. Additional environmental management actions proposed by social actors with interest in the area should be recognized, and more resources should be allocated to implement these projects or actions.
The research is guided by the national policy on protected areas and the GIBSE, which includes strategic lines, social actors, and management actions. The study uses qualitative techniques such as structured interviews, surveys, and map designs to gather information. It also analyzes the effectiveness of management through thematic axes, identifying weak points in sustainable production systems and governance. The research proposes actions to address these issues and enhance the conservation and sustainable use of the protected area. This document addresses two key topics in environmental studies: conservation management and integrated management of biodiversity and ecosystem services (GIBSE).
