The role of social capital in rural development is illustrated through the case of Ruś village. Social capital, defined as specific relationships connecting communities, is crucial for local development. It becomes active when there is a threat to local interests, leading to new cooperative relationships. In Ruś, social capital was mobilized on various levels of activity. The village, characterized by young, highly qualified residents, initially lacked a formal leader, with activities often spontaneous. Over time, local leaders, including the village headman and members of the association of Ruś residents, emerged. High awareness of values such as pristine natural environment, cultural continuity, and local ties drove actions creating a welcoming space for residents and newcomers. The village's unique natural and cultural heritage, along with its proximity to Olsztyn, made it an attractive place to live. The community's active participation in social activities, including the preservation of historical sites and the renovation of the church, highlights the role of social capital in rural development. The village's efforts to maintain its cultural identity and natural environment, supported by local initiatives and community engagement, demonstrate how social capital can be harnessed for sustainable rural development. The role of social capital in rural development is illustrated through the case of Ruś village.
