COSMIC (Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer) is a comprehensive resource for exploring somatic mutations in human cancer. Curated by expert scientists, COSMIC integrates data from various scientific publications and large-scale sequencing studies, providing detailed information on coding and non-coding mutations, gene fusions, genome rearrangements, abnormal copy number segments, abnormal expression variants, and differentially methylated CpG dinucleotides. The latest release (v78, September 2016) includes over 4 million coding mutations and more than 13 million non-coding mutations, along with detailed resistance profiles for 20 anti-cancer drugs. COSMIC also highlights the genetics of drug resistance, detailing 301 unique resistance alleles across 1934 drug-resistant tumors. The database is freely available on the COSMIC website, offering user-friendly tools for exploration and integration with other genomic resources. Future work will focus on expanding the breadth of annotations and improving data accessibility through an API.COSMIC (Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer) is a comprehensive resource for exploring somatic mutations in human cancer.
