This study explores the perspectives of Vietnamese students on using ChatGPT to support their language learning. Data were collected from 77 Vietnamese students studying in Vietnam and the United States through a questionnaire distributed via personal connections. The findings indicate that ChatGPT is viewed positively as a useful tool for facilitating language learning, enhancing engagement, and supporting knowledge acquisition. However, over-reliance on ChatGPT may limit critical thinking and creativity. To mitigate these drawbacks, a balanced approach between ChatGPT and conventional teaching methods is recommended. The study suggests that educators should incorporate ChatGPT or AI tools to innovate language teaching and research. Key insights include the need for professional training, awareness of limitations, and appropriate use of ChatGPT to ensure its effectiveness in language learning environments.
