This study explores Vietnamese students' perspectives on using ChatGPT for language learning. Data was collected from 77 Vietnamese students studying in Vietnam and the United States. The results show that ChatGPT is generally viewed as a useful tool for language learning, helping students engage in the learning process and enhance their knowledge. However, over-reliance on ChatGPT may limit critical thinking and creativity. The study suggests a balance between ChatGPT and traditional teaching methods to minimize these drawbacks. Vietnamese students in both countries generally agree that ChatGPT is effective in supporting language learning, but there are concerns about its limitations, such as providing basic information and reducing motivation for live lectures. The study also highlights the importance of integrating ChatGPT into language learning in a way that supports, rather than replaces, traditional teaching methods. The findings suggest that ChatGPT can be a valuable tool for language learning, but its use should be balanced with traditional methods to ensure students develop critical thinking and creativity.
