The article reviews the potential and challenges of ChatGPT in the medical field. Since its launch, ChatGPT has garnered significant attention for its capabilities in healthcare consultation, patient management, medical education, and clinical research. It has demonstrated high accuracy in dermatology exams, provided valuable insights in fungal disease treatment, and enhanced image processing for surgical oncology. In education, ChatGPT can serve as a virtual tutor, improving learning experiences and critical thinking skills. It also aids in clinical research by generating research ideas, improving data analysis, and enhancing article writing and editing. However, concerns about plagiarism, misinformation, and ethical issues have emerged. The risk of research fraud, lack of originality, and the potential for AI hallucination (inaccurate or fabricated content) are significant challenges. Additionally, the application of ChatGPT in clinical practice faces issues such as reproducibility, specificity, and patient data privacy. The authors emphasize the need for establishing norms and guidelines to ensure safe and responsible use of ChatGPT in medicine. While the potential benefits are promising, the current application is still immature, and caution is advised. The article reviews the potential and challenges of ChatGPT in the medical field.
