CIRCUM-ARCTIC MAP OF PERMAFROST AND GROUND-ICE CONDITIONS

CIRCUM-ARCTIC MAP OF PERMAFROST AND GROUND-ICE CONDITIONS

1997 | J. Brown, O.J. Ferrians, Jr., J.A. Heginbottom, and E.S. Melnikov
This article presents a circum-arctic map of permafrost and ground-ice conditions. The map was prepared by J. Brown, O.J. Ferrians, Jr., J.A. Heginbottom, and E.S. Melnikov from various institutions including the International Permafrost Association, U.S. Geological Survey, Geological Survey of Canada, and Institute for Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology. The map was prepared with the cooperation and assistance of the Circum-Pacific Council for Energy and Mineral Resources, Circum-Pacific Map Project. The map provides an overview of permafrost and ground-ice conditions across the circum-arctic region. It is a valuable resource for understanding the distribution and characteristics of permafrost and ground-ice in this region. The map is based on data collected from various sources, including field surveys, remote sensing, and existing geological and climatic data. The map is intended to serve as a reference for researchers, policymakers, and industry professionals involved in energy and mineral resources in the circum-arctic region. The map highlights areas with different permafrost and ground-ice conditions, which can help in assessing the potential for resource development and in planning for the environmental impacts of such activities. The map also provides information on the extent and characteristics of permafrost and ground-ice, which is important for understanding the environmental and geological conditions of the region. The map is a key tool for understanding the complex interactions between permafrost, ground-ice, and the environment in the circum-arctic region. This article presents a circum-arctic map of permafrost and ground-ice conditions.
