2024 | David Oyekunle, David Boohene
This study explores the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in business, focusing on its implementation, benefits, and challenges. The research aims to analyze the current state of AI adoption in business and examine the factors influencing its implementation. A semi-structured interview approach was used, involving six key stakeholders, including executives, AI project managers, and digital transformation team members. Six global organizations were selected for case studies based on their AI maturity and digital transformation success. A qualitative content analysis of literature on AI and digital transformation was also conducted. The study reveals that as companies continue to integrate AI, a balanced approach that considers workforce implications is crucial for realizing AI's full potential. AI adoption in business is a nuanced process influenced by factors such as organizational leadership, culture, resource availability, perceived benefits, regulatory considerations, data security, technology evaluation, and workforce readiness. A holistic understanding of these factors enables organizations to navigate the complex space of AI adoption and unlock its transformative potential. The research highlights the benefits of AI implementation, including improved operational efficiency, enhanced decision-making, and innovation in products and services. However, it also identifies challenges such as ethical concerns, biases in AI algorithms, and workforce implications due to automation. The study emphasizes the importance of addressing these challenges through legal and ethical frameworks, workforce reskilling, and data security measures. The findings suggest that successful AI adoption requires a strategic approach that considers the interplay of various factors. Organizations must invest in resources, foster a culture of innovation, and ensure that AI technologies align with their strategic goals. The study also underscores the importance of addressing ethical and social issues associated with AI, such as bias, privacy, and job displacement, to ensure responsible and sustainable AI implementation. Overall, the research provides valuable insights into the multifaceted nature of AI adoption in business and offers practical guidance for organizations seeking to harness the transformative potential of AI.This study explores the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in business, focusing on its implementation, benefits, and challenges.
