Abril 2015 | Alexis Cloquell Lozano
The article examines the social use of the internet among Spanish adolescents, analyzing the impact of information and communication technologies (ICTs) on their behavior and social interactions. It reviews existing literature across various scientific fields, including sociology, psychology, communication, law, and education, to understand the perspectives and approaches used in studying this topic. The study also analyzes the habits and behaviors of adolescents in relation to the internet, using data from the "Survey on Internet Usage and Safety Habits of Children and Young People in Spain" published by the Ministry of the Interior in June 2014. The article highlights the increasing integration of ICTs into daily life, with a significant portion of the population, especially adolescents, using the internet daily. The most common devices used are mobile phones and computers. Adolescents frequently use the internet for schoolwork, information search, and watching videos. They also engage in social media, messaging, and online communication. However, there are differences in parental and adolescent perceptions regarding internet use and supervision. The study reveals that a large percentage of adolescents have used social media, with a significant number having private profiles. However, many parents are unaware of their children's online activities and the content they share. Cyberbullying is a significant concern, with a notable percentage of adolescents reporting being victims of online harassment. The article also notes that the use of the internet for educational purposes is widespread, with platforms like WhatsApp and social media being commonly used for communication and information sharing. The study concludes that the internet has become an essential part of adolescents' lives, influencing their social interactions and behaviors. However, it also highlights the risks associated with internet use, including cyberbullying and privacy issues. The article emphasizes the need for further research and policy development to address these challenges and ensure the safe and responsible use of the internet by adolescents. The article examines the social use of the internet among Spanish adolescents, analyzing the impact of information and communication technologies (ICTs) on their behavior and social interactions.
