This paper presents a comprehensive synthesis of all known extant and fossil Coleoptera family-group names, providing a catalogue of 4887 family-group names (124 fossil, 4763 extant) based on 4707 distinct genera. The authors assess the availability and validity of each name using the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN), identify priority and homonymy issues, and propose solutions to promote stability. They recognize 24 superfamilies, 211 families, 541 subfamilies, 1663 tribes, and 740 subtribes. The paper includes detailed information on the original spelling, author, year of publication, page number, correct stem, and type genus for each name. It also lists new synonymies and replacements, and discusses the application of the Principle of Coordination and Priority. The authors emphasize the importance of accurate nomenclature and encourage the submission of applications to the ICZN for unresolved issues. The classification is organized in a "phylogenetic" framework, and the paper includes a synoptic classification of the world Coleoptera. This paper presents a comprehensive synthesis of all known extant and fossil Coleoptera family-group names, providing a catalogue of 4887 family-group names (124 fossil, 4763 extant) based on 4707 distinct genera.
