The GAIED (Generative AI for Education) workshop, organized by Adish Singla and colleagues at the NeurIPS 2023 conference, aimed to bring together researchers, educators, and practitioners to explore the potential of generative AI in enhancing education. The workshop focused on two main thrusts: GAI→ED (exploring how generative AI can improve educational technology) and ED→GAI (identifying and addressing challenges in education caused by generative AI). Key topics included personalized content generation, human-machine collaborative systems, and safeguarding techniques to ensure bias-free and accurate outputs. The workshop featured invited talks, poster sessions, and a panel discussion, attracting up to 150 attendees. The accepted papers covered a range of research topics, and the workshop highlighted the need for a diverse and multidisciplinary community to address the unique challenges and opportunities in GAIED. The article concludes by emphasizing the importance of ongoing community building and research in this critical area. The GAIED (Generative AI for Education) workshop, organized by Adish Singla and colleagues at the NeurIPS 2023 conference, aimed to bring together researchers, educators, and practitioners to explore the potential of generative AI in enhancing education.
