A study conducted on Chinese adults aged 80 years or older found that a healthier lifestyle is associated with a higher likelihood of becoming a centenarian. Using data from the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey, researchers analyzed the relationship between lifestyle factors and the ability to reach 100 years of age. The study identified a healthy lifestyle score (HLS-100) based on smoking, exercise, and dietary diversity, with higher scores indicating better health outcomes. The results showed that individuals with the highest HLS-100 scores had a significantly higher chance of becoming centenarians compared to those with the lowest scores. This association remained significant even after adjusting for various sociodemographic and health factors. The study also found that maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including regular exercise and a diverse diet, was linked to better physical and cognitive function, as well as mental wellness. The findings suggest that adopting a healthy lifestyle is crucial for achieving longevity, even at advanced ages. The study highlights the importance of promoting healthy behaviors among older adults to support healthy aging and increase life expectancy. The research underscores the need for targeted interventions to improve lifestyle habits and enhance the quality of life for the elderly population.A study conducted on Chinese adults aged 80 years or older found that a healthier lifestyle is associated with a higher likelihood of becoming a centenarian.
