Hidden Symmetries of the AdS5 × S5 Superstring

Hidden Symmetries of the AdS5 × S5 Superstring

28 Jul 2003 | Iosif Bena, Joseph Polchinski, Radu Roiban
The paper discusses the hidden symmetries of the Green-Schwarz superstring on the $AdS_5 \times S^5$ background, focusing on the existence of an infinite set of nonlocal classically conserved charges. These charges are of the type found in integrable field theories and suggest that the world-sheet theory may be exactly solvable in certain nontrivial cases. The authors review the construction of nonlocal charges in bosonic and coset models and extend this to the Green-Schwarz superstring on $AdS_5 \times S^5$. They find two one-parameter families of flat connections, leading to an infinite symmetry algebra. The paper also explores the possibility of local chiral charges but finds that they do not exist in the conformally invariant theory. The authors discuss the implications of these findings for the solution of large-$N$ QCD and the application of integrable field theory methods to the system. The paper discusses the hidden symmetries of the Green-Schwarz superstring on the $AdS_5 \times S^5$ background, focusing on the existence of an infinite set of nonlocal classically conserved charges.
