ChatGPT is a chatbot developed by OpenAI that has gained popularity for providing health-related information. This study evaluated its effectiveness in offering dietary advice for non-communicable diseases (NCDs). The researchers compared ChatGPT's responses to dietary guidelines for various NCDs, including sarcopenia, NAFLD, obesity, and T2DM. They found that ChatGPT provided appropriate advice for most conditions, with appropriateness ranging from 55.5% to 73.3%. However, it had limitations in handling complex cases with multiple overlapping conditions, leading to some contradictory or inappropriate advice. The chatbot also struggled with providing personalized recommendations, as it often gave general advice rather than tailored dietary plans. While ChatGPT performed well in general dietary advice, it was not accurate enough for complex medical conditions. The study concluded that ChatGPT cannot replace a healthcare professional's consultation for dietary advice, especially in complex cases. The chatbot's responses were generally clear and aligned with guidelines, but it lacked the ability to provide customized advice and had limitations in handling multiple health conditions simultaneously. The study highlights the potential of ChatGPT as a tool for general dietary advice but emphasizes the need for professional consultation in complex cases. The chatbot's responses were also found to be inconsistent in some cases, with some recommendations not fully matching guidelines. The study also noted that ChatGPT's knowledge is limited to updates until January 2022, which may affect the accuracy of its responses. Overall, while ChatGPT can be a useful resource for general dietary advice, it is not a substitute for professional medical consultation.ChatGPT is a chatbot developed by OpenAI that has gained popularity for providing health-related information.
