JASPAR 2020, the 8th release of the open-access database of curated, non-redundant transcription factor (TF)-binding profiles, has been updated with significant expansions and improvements. The CORE collection now includes 245 new position frequency matrices (PFMs) (169 for vertebrates, 42 for plants, 17 for nematodes, 10 for insects, and 7 for fungi), representing an 18% expansion compared to the previous release. Additionally, 156 PFM profiles have been updated. A novel collection of unvalidated TF-binding profiles, which lack orthogonal supporting evidence, has been introduced, with a dedicated web form for community curation. The database also features an updated Q&A forum for user communication and enhanced genomic tracks, an inference tool, and TF-binding profile similarity clusters. The JASPAR 2020 CORE collection now includes 1,646 non-redundant PFM profiles, with 746 associated with vertebrates, 530 with plants, 183 with fungi, 143 with insects, 43 with nematodes, and 1 with urochordates. The database is available through its website, RESTful API, and the JASPAR2020 R/Bioconductor package.JASPAR 2020, the 8th release of the open-access database of curated, non-redundant transcription factor (TF)-binding profiles, has been updated with significant expansions and improvements.
