The article presents a comprehensive review of the literature on greenwashing, a phenomenon where companies mislead consumers about their environmental practices. The review, conducted using correspondence analysis on 309 publications from 2007 to 2023, identified six clusters of research based on company size, geographical context, and research issues. The findings show that greenwashing is a growing research topic, with a focus on large companies in developed countries like Asia, Australia, and Europe. The research highlights various factors negatively correlated with greenwashing, such as innovation, and indicates that governments and stakeholders can use greenwashing research to inform their actions. The study also reveals that greenwashing is prevalent in Africa and is often linked to heavy polluting companies. The research concludes by discussing the limitations and suggesting future directions, including the need for more empirical studies and a broader scope of publication databases. The article presents a comprehensive review of the literature on greenwashing, a phenomenon where companies mislead consumers about their environmental practices.
