The study reviews the composition of pork meat, its differences among various cuts, and the evidence on its influence on health outcomes. Pork, which contributes to 30% of global meat consumption, is rich in high-quality protein, B-complex vitamins, and essential minerals like zinc and iron. It contains moderate levels of saturated fat compared to beef. Research highlights the sustainability benefits of pork consumption, as it is derived from non-ruminant animals and fits into one of the five most sustainable dietary patterns. Clinical studies show that pork consumption does not negatively impact cardiovascular risk factors, particularly blood lipids. The study concludes that pork can be a viable option in a healthy and sustainable diet, especially when lean cuts are consumed. The Atlantic diet, prevalent in Iberian regions, includes pork and has been associated with multiple health benefits, including lower mortality rates and depression risk. Despite the environmental impact of pork production, the study suggests that including pork in a sustainable diet is feasible and beneficial. The study reviews the composition of pork meat, its differences among various cuts, and the evidence on its influence on health outcomes.
