This article focuses on the trustworthiness of qualitative content analysis in nursing science studies, emphasizing the importance of scrutinizing each phase of the analysis process. The authors review previous studies, their own experiences, and methodological textbooks to describe trustworthiness in the preparation, organization, and reporting phases of qualitative content analysis. They conclude that a clear indication of the overall trustworthiness of the study should be provided to readers. To improve the trustworthiness of content analysis studies, the authors compile a checklist for researchers, covering aspects such as data collection methods, sampling strategies, and the selection of a suitable unit of analysis. The article also discusses the challenges in evaluating the trustworthiness of qualitative content analysis studies due to defective data collection and analysis descriptions. The discussion highlights the need for effective and straightforward strategies to evaluate content analysis studies and clarifies how content analysis should be reported in a valid and understandable manner, benefiting reviewers of scientific articles. This article focuses on the trustworthiness of qualitative content analysis in nursing science studies, emphasizing the importance of scrutinizing each phase of the analysis process.
