This study examines the current state of Huadengxi Chinese folk songs in Yunnan Province, a unique folk art form with deep cultural roots. Huadengxi, known as the "gorgeous camellia," is a blend of songs, dances, and dramatic performances that reflect the rich cultural heritage of Yunnan. The research involved five key informants with expertise in Huadengxi, and data was collected through observation forms, interviews, and questionnaires. The study highlights recent innovations, historical evolution, and the integration of Huadengxi into educational institutions. It emphasizes the importance of preserving this traditional art form in the face of modernization and globalization.
The research reveals that Huadengxi has evolved from traditional folk performances to modern stage adaptations, incorporating elements of modern dance and ballet. Regional variations within Yunnan, such as Kunming, Yuxi, Chuxiong, and Dali, showcase distinct musical styles influenced by local dialects and traditions. Despite challenges posed by rapid modernization, efforts to preserve and promote Huadengxi are ongoing, with a focus on integrating it into educational curricula. Surveys indicate positive perceptions among students and teachers, suggesting potential for further inclusion in schools.
The study underscores the significance of ethnomusicology in understanding the cultural and historical context of Huadengxi. It also highlights the role of education in preserving traditional culture and the need for a balance between preservation and innovation. Overall, the research demonstrates that Huadengxi remains a vital part of Yunnan's cultural heritage, adapting to contemporary society while maintaining its traditional essence. The findings emphasize the importance of cultural preservation and the role of education in sustaining traditional art forms. This study examines the current state of Huadengxi Chinese folk songs in Yunnan Province, a unique folk art form with deep cultural roots.
