This study explores the impact of tactical situations and playing styles on match outcomes in soccer, aiming to fill a gap in the existing literature by incorporating tactical aspects as key performance indicators (KPIs). Using a dataset from 11 European countries' First Division Championships during the 2021-2022 season, the researchers analyzed the correlation between tactical situations and match outcomes using a Generalized Estimating Equation (GEE) framework. The study found that possession style, counterattacking during offensive transitions, and a balanced aggressive defensive strategy significantly increase a team's chances of victory. Teams that focus on central attacks, minimize crossing, and execute strategic plays leading to final attempts on goal with minimal ball possession tend to perform better. The findings highlight the importance of considering tactical aspects in performance analysis, providing a comprehensive framework for tactical planning and in-game strategy, ultimately enhancing a team's likelihood of success. The study also discusses the limitations and suggests future research directions, emphasizing the need for dynamic analysis and continuous validation of the model. This study explores the impact of tactical situations and playing styles on match outcomes in soccer, aiming to fill a gap in the existing literature by incorporating tactical aspects as key performance indicators (KPIs).
