The study developed and validated the Fear of COVID-19 Scale (FCV-19S) to assess fear related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The scale consists of seven items, selected through a rigorous process involving literature review, expert evaluations, and pilot testing. Psychometric analyses, including classical test theory (CTT) and Rasch model, confirmed the scale's reliability and validity. The FCV-19S demonstrated good internal consistency (α = .82) and test-retest reliability (ICC = .72). Concurrent validity was supported by significant correlations with the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and the Perceived Vulnerability to Disease Scale (PVDS). The scale was found to be reliable and valid in assessing fear of COVID-19 among the general population, making it a useful tool for public health initiatives to address and reduce fears associated with the pandemic. The study developed and validated the Fear of COVID-19 Scale (FCV-19S) to assess fear related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
