The Fear of COVID-19 Scale (FCV-19S) was developed to assess fear related to the coronavirus. The scale was created through a rigorous process involving literature review, expert evaluation, and participant interviews. It consists of seven items that measure fear of COVID-19, with acceptable reliability and validity. Psychometric tests, including classical test theory and Rasch analysis, confirmed the scale's robust properties. The FCV-19S showed strong factor loadings and satisfactory reliability, with internal consistency (α = .82) and test-retest reliability (ICC = .72). Concurrent validity was supported by correlations with the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and the Perceived Vulnerability to Disease Scale (PVDS). The scale demonstrated good psychometric properties and was found to be reliable in assessing fear of COVID-19 among the general population. The study concluded that the FCV-19S is a valid and reliable tool for assessing fear of COVID-19, which can help in addressing the psychological impact of the disease. The scale was validated using data from 717 Iranian participants, with no significant differences in response patterns across gender and age. The study also highlighted the importance of addressing psychological aspects in the management of infectious diseases, as fear can exacerbate the impact of the disease. Limitations include the lack of formal diagnoses and the use of convenience sampling. Overall, the FCV-19S is a seven-item unidimensional scale with robust psychometric properties, suitable for use in assessing and alleviating fears of COVID-19 among individuals. The Fear of COVID-19 Scale (FCV-19S) was developed to assess fear related to the coronavirus.
