The study aimed to help a group of caregivers from an IAPA (Institution Authorized for Adoption) responsible for the daily care of children in protection and adoption by the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare (ICBF) to resignify their work through workshops built with different pedagogical strategies to improve interaction with children. This participatory action research with a qualitative approach based on instrumental activity and theoretical review contrasted different conceptions and perceptions of caregivers about the impact of their work on Colombian society, especially in early childhood. Instruments and methods used were role-playing, thinking routines, and integration games. Data analysis used mapping and content analysis, finding significant associations between the caregiver's sensitivity towards child development, disciplinary practices, and conceptions of their work, empowerment, well-being, and motivation. Keywords: Caregivers, early childhood, empowerment, well-being, resignification, motivation.
The first childhood has been one of the most neglected populations throughout history, a situation that has been promoted and maintained by the lack of knowledge about the importance of this stage in development, as well as the needs and conceptions about the first years, against which the idea prevails that a child, due to limited or unacquired abilities, does not belong to society, denying the possibility of acquiring and accessing civil and social rights. However, different social agents have recognized the deficiencies and shortcomings at the social level that have prevented the free development of this population, creating movements, organizations, and strategies to counteract the effects of this abandonment and provide their knowledge and capabilities to this population, starting from which, IAPA and private foundations emerge aimed at abandoned and unprotected children, as a community that watches over the care and well-being of children in vulnerable situations.
Despite the work performed, these organizations and particularly those who exercise roles associated with child care have lacked the due recognition at the social level, generating a delay or regression in front of the initiatives that founded their creation. In line with this, the present work arises under the need to contribute to the formation and development of early childhood, working with an IAPA, especially with the caregivers who provide services there, who, in addition to having greater access to this population, are responsible for providing assistanceThe Universidad de La Sabana informs that authors have authorized internal and external users to access the document through the online catalog of the library and the institutional repository on the library's website, as well as through the country and international information networks with which the university has agreements.
