Fellows of the Royal Society of Edinburgh have been elected, including Mr. A. J. Aglen, Sir William Arbuckle, Mr. J. W. Atwell, Prof. J. Baddiley, Dr. R. A. Beatty, Mr. A. J. Brook, Prof. J. Bruce, Mr. J. D. S. Cameron, Mr. W. Dickson, Dr. A. J. Hale, Prof. J. Hawthorn, Dr. J. B. Helliwell, Dr. P. N. Hobson, Prof. A. Iggo, Mr. G. S. Johnstone, Mr. P. P. Love, Prof. W. T. Marshall, Dr. D. Martin, Dr. W. G. Siller, Mr. D. G. Sopwith, Mr. T. A. Stuart, Dr. R. L. M. Synge, Dr. C. J. Taylor, Dr. J. Tinsley, and Dr. H. W. Wilson. Prof. Franz Sondheimer has been awarded the 1961 Corday-Morgan Medal and Prize for his contributions to the chemistry of natural products, including the synthesis of steroidal sapogenins and studies on unsaturated macrocyclic compounds. The International Commission on Radiological Protection has elected new officers and members for 1962-65, including Dr. E. Eric Pochin as Chairman and Prof. L. Bugnard as Vice-Chairman. The Commission's secretariat has been transferred to Clifton Avenue, Sutton, Surrey. The Water Resources Bill has been debated in the House of Lords, with concerns raised about the protection of the Lake District's amenity.
