The proceedings of the 1994 International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) held in Zurich, Switzerland, from August 3 to 11, 1994, are published in two volumes. Volume I covers the organization of the Congress, the list of ordinary members, reports on the work of the Fields Medalists and the Nevanlinna Prize Winner, plenary one-hour addresses, and invited addresses at Section Meetings 1–6. Volume II includes the invited addresses for Section Meetings 7–19. The Congress was organized by the Swiss Mathematical Society and supported by various public and academic bodies, as well as private corporations and individuals. The scientific program was managed by the Program Committee appointed by the International Mathematical Union (IMU), and the plenary lectures were delivered by distinguished mathematicians. The opening and closing ceremonies, along with the presentations of the Fields Medals and the Rolf Nevanlinna Prize, were held in the Zürich Kongreßhaus. The Congress featured 16 plenary lectures and 148 section lectures, covering a wide range of mathematical topics.
