This research aims to develop a protocol for the provision of health services in the telehealth modality offered by the Psychiatry Department of the National University of Colombia, aligning with national quality standards. Telehealth encompasses various concepts such as telemedicine, teleorientation, telementoring, and telehealth education, which have been implemented globally to reduce barriers to accessing healthcare and maintain intervention effectiveness. In Colombia, telehealth strategies involving public and private health services and higher education institutions have been gradually implemented, but mental health issues and access difficulties remain significant social problems. The study reviews the evolution of telepsychiatry concepts, its history, and its implementation in different populations, including children, adolescents, the elderly, and those in correctional facilities. It also examines the effectiveness, acceptability, and cost evaluation of telepsychiatry, as well as its use in education and during the COVID-19 pandemic. The research highlights the need for expanding mental health services offered by the Psychiatry Department of the National University of Colombia to meet current demands and improve access to quality care. This research aims to develop a protocol for the provision of health services in the telehealth modality offered by the Psychiatry Department of the National University of Colombia, aligning with national quality standards.
