The Surgical Case REport (SCARE) guidelines, first published in 2016, were updated in 2023 to remain relevant and valuable for surgeons. The update was conducted through a Delphi consensus exercise involving members of the SCARE 2020 guidelines Delphi group, editorial board members, and peer reviewers. A total of 44 out of 54 invited participants completed the survey, with 83.7% of items meeting the inclusion threshold. The revised guidelines aim to improve the completeness and quality of surgical case reports, addressing gaps and limitations of the previous version. Key updates include enhanced patient information, detailed follow-up and outcomes, and a separate section on strengths and limitations. The updated guidelines provide a comprehensive and standardized framework for reporting surgical cases, emphasizing patient-centered care and evidence-based medicine. The guidelines are available for use by authors, reviewers, editors, and journals to enhance the consistency and quality of surgical case reports. The Surgical Case REport (SCARE) guidelines, first published in 2016, were updated in 2023 to remain relevant and valuable for surgeons.
