The Stroop Color and Word Test (SCWT) is a neuropsychological tool used to assess cognitive inhibition, particularly the Stroop Effect, which occurs when processing one stimulus attribute impairs the simultaneous processing of another. This study aims to evaluate the theoretical adequacy of various scoring methods for measuring the Stroop effect. A systematic review of studies providing normative data for the SCWT was conducted, focusing on Italian literature. The review identified 44 articles, with 32 suitable for analysis. The Golden (1978) scoring method, widely used, was found to be inadequate for fully assessing the Stroop effect. The review also discussed several normative scoring methods from the Italian perspective and proposed an alternative method that considers both speed and accuracy of response.
