The study explores the concept of "aging in place" from the perspectives of older people in two New Zealand communities. The research reveals that older individuals value choices about their living arrangements and access to services, emphasizing the importance of social connection and a sense of security and familiarity. "Aging in place" is seen as advantageous in terms of attachment, social connections, and a sense of identity through independence and autonomy. Participants distinguish between the physical home and the broader neighborhood and community, highlighting the practical benefits of familiarity and social networks. The study underscores the need for policy and research to consider the multifaceted nature of aging in place, including the symbolic and emotional aspects of place, and the importance of neighborhood and community in supporting older adults. The study explores the concept of "aging in place" from the perspectives of older people in two New Zealand communities.
