This umbrella review synthesizes existing literature on stress levels, sources of stress, and coping mechanisms among student nurses. It includes 12 reviews from 189 studies, published between 2010 and 2023, examining stress in nursing students. The findings indicate that student nurses experience moderate-to-high levels of stress, with major sources including academic demands, patient care responsibilities, and interactions with nursing staff and faculty. Commonly used coping strategies include problem-solving behaviors, transference, and maintaining an optimistic outlook. Stress levels vary across academic years, with some studies showing no significant differences, while others indicate higher stress in higher academic years. The review highlights the importance of developing effective coping strategies to reduce stress and enhance well-being among nursing students. Nurse educators play a critical role in this process by providing support, fostering problem-solving skills, and promoting resilience. The study did not register with a review registry. The review underscores the need for targeted interventions and support strategies to address common stressors and enhance coping mechanisms among student nurses globally. Limitations include the focus on quantitative studies and the exclusion of non-English literature. Future research should explore the effectiveness of specific coping strategies and consider cultural, educational, and healthcare system factors in stress and coping among nursing students. This umbrella review synthesizes existing literature on stress levels, sources of stress, and coping mechanisms among student nurses.
