This review article explores the challenges in ideological and political education in China, focusing on current research trends and key issues. It highlights the importance of ideological and political education in shaping values, fostering citizenship, and maintaining social stability. Despite the government's emphasis on this education, academic research remains limited, with most studies focusing on normative and descriptive aspects. The paper uses ATLAS.ti 9 for thematic analysis of 69 articles published between 2021 and July 2023, revealing trends and challenges in the field. Key findings include the increasing attention to ideological and political education since 2021, particularly following the 100th anniversary of the Communist Party of China. The research shows that the topic is widely studied, with a focus on big data, technical applications, innovative countermeasures, resource integration, and evaluation and quality improvement. Challenges include the need for more practical applications, addressing ethical and privacy concerns, and ensuring the generalizability of research findings. The qualitative analysis identifies five main themes: big data era-related problems, technical application problems, innovative countermeasures, resource integration, and evaluation and quality improvement. These themes highlight the importance of integrating technology, improving teaching methods, and enhancing resource sharing in ideological and political education. However, the studies also point out limitations, such as the narrow focus on specific aspects, lack of comprehensive comparative analysis, and insufficient attention to practical implementation. The paper concludes that while there is growing interest in ideological and political education, there is a need for more research to address the challenges and improve the effectiveness of the education system. It emphasizes the importance of ethical considerations, the need for comprehensive analysis, and the potential of technological innovations in enhancing the quality of ideological and political education. The study provides valuable insights for policymakers, educators, and researchers, offering a foundation for future research and development in this critical area. This review article explores the challenges in ideological and political education in China, focusing on current research trends and key issues.
