The BG Prasad classification is a socio-economic scale used in India to determine individual health based on family income. It relies on annual inflation rates and changes in the prices of consumer goods. The All-India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) for October 2023 is 138.4. The BG Prasad Scale, initially introduced in 1961 with a base value of 100 for 1960, has undergone periodic revisions. Linkage factors were introduced in 1982, 2001, and 2016 to adjust the CPI back to the base year. The revised modified BG Prasad classification for October 2023 was calculated using a correction factor derived from the current CPI (138.4), linkage factors between 1960 and 1982 (4.63), 1982 and 2001 (4.63), and 2001 and 2016 (2.88), divided by the base index in 2016 (100), resulting in 90.98. New income values are calculated by multiplying the correction factor by the old income value of 1961. Table 1 shows the updated per capita monthly income for October 2023. The authors declare no financial support or conflict of interest. The article was received on November 6, 2023, accepted on December 12, 2023, and published on January 1, 2024.
